about
Forgive the fumbling guitar. I'll make a better version of this when I can re-record with proper backup vocals.
lyrics
nathanael was my friend
way back, way back when
we had no foggy clue where we were going
he was selfish in his way
i guess that you could say
he kept the wind of our old friendship blowing
i remember when he'd say
that i was getting in his way
he'd dump my suitcase out and think it's funny
and he'd steal whatever he could find
from his parent's place, i don't know why
it's not as if he didn't have the money
well it started when he lost his way
back home, oh boy, we worried that day
there seemed to be something we weren't knowing
we took him off to the doc downtown
the doc looked in him and he found
something in my good old friend was growing
it's not too far off now
nathanael's brain is breaking down
he's got his hair back since they gave up chemo
he moved back home to his parents' flat
i've never seen a thing so sad
as the slow decay of my first friend's fat ego
i went to visit him last week
he spends his days mostly asleep
it's kind of strange to see what he's becoming
he don't remember things too well now
he had to have his mother tell him
how to dress and what's the date and who it is was coming
well we walked out in the rain
and just then things felt the same
as the good old days when he and i were buddies
but when we got back to his room
nathanael looked confused
he looked down and asked my why his shoes were muddy
it's not too far off now
nathanael's brain is breaking down
he's got his hair back since they gave up chemo
he moved back home to his parents' flat
i've never seen a thing so sad
as the slow decay of my first friend's fat ego
i wish he could have been
his puffed up self right to the end
but now his puff will crumple and it's showing
nathanael was my friend
way back, way back when
and now we know where my old friend is going
